Restaurants these days are incorporating more and more technological features and gadgets in their operations. Some establishments now make use of pagers to inform customers when their tables are ready. Basically, these pagers are simple radios that can listen to a single station at all times. A radio transmitter is used to broadcast a signal on a specific frequency. All the pagers used in that one network have a receiver built into them which is tuned to the same broadcast frequency as the transmitter.

The pagers then stay connected to the transmitter as long as they are turned on. Every pager has its own identification sequence called the Channel Access Protocol or CAP code. Once this code is transmitted, the pager to which it belongs to alerts its user. These devices make use of on-site paging systems with a small desktop-sized transmitter. Aside from using pagers, some restaurants have also started to install touchscreen computers where their customers can input their orders, eliminating the need for waiters listing down what people want to eat. This makes record keeping easier and more convenient for the restaurants since the proprietor or manager can simply print out the information he or she needs at the end of the day to write up his or her reports.
